In Tisaura village of Cholapur police station area of Varanasi, the lover, who had reached his girlfriend’s house on New Year’s day, was burnt alive by his family members after tying him with a rope to a tree. On Wednesday, two days after the incident, the lover died during treatment in a private hospital in Shivpur. The family members created a ruckus and refused to accept the body, demanding the arrest of the girlfriend and other accused. Shivpur police, after convincing the family members, took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. On the other hand, based on the mother’s complaint, Cholapur police has registered a case of murder against seven including the girlfriend. The lover’s family members allege that the police took 72 hours to register the case.

Shubham Seth (26), resident of Patarhi Kopa of Chandwak police station area of Jaunpur, used to run a jewelery shop in Maudha of Khanpur police station area of Ghazipur. He also operated a jewelery shop in Akatha, Ashapur, Sarnath. During this time, he fell in love with Ritika, a girl resident of Tisaura, Cholapur. Both knew each other for the last five-six years. The girlfriend’s family members were also aware of this.
According to Shubham Seth’s mother Kiran Devi, on New Year’s day, Ritika’s father Ram Avtar called Shubham to his house for marriage talks. It is alleged that when Shubham reached Tisaura at six in the evening, Ritika’s father Ramavatar, uncle and other family members tied him to a tree with a rope and beat him and then poured petrol on him and set him on fire.
